ÁRON LŐRINCZ

Áron Lőrincz (b. 1985, Budapest, Hungary) is a Hungarian artist based in Budapest, working across painting, sculpture, and installation. His practice is characterised by a precise painterly language, meticulously developed in acrylic and airbrush, marked by smooth gradients, sharp contours, and a deliberately artificial, seductive surface that appears deceptively digital. His distinctive, cartoonish vocabulary draws on old stories, symbols, and themes to reflect on the contemporary world. Central to his work is the development of distinct, prolific, figure-based series. Each body of work is a near-obsessive, indulgent exploration of a singular protagonist – witches, succubi, and more recently the pirate as a kind of rebellious non-conforming alter ego – through which Lőrincz explores forms of otherness, projection, and self-construction. These archetypal outsider figures collectively draw on elements of horror, mythology, and fantasy. Rather than functioning as narrative characters in a conventional sense, they are used to explore shifting states of identity and perception. The figures are placed within carefully constructed, stylised environments, with each painting contributing to a larger, evolving image world in which characters, settings, and motifs recur across works, forming a self-generated mythology. Drawing on influences from films, cartoons, and personal memory, Lőrincz builds a consistent visual language that supports this ongoing process of world-building.

Lőrincz’s recent solo exhibitions include the site-specific mural The Pirate, Longtermhandstand Palazzo, Budapest (2025–2026); Pirates Not Dead at Longtermhandstand, Budapest (2024), and Succubus at Longtermhandstand, Budapest (2022). Selected group exhibitions include the Esterházy Art Award exhibition, Ludwig Museum, Budapest (2025, 2023); Happy to be part of What if I hypnotize you, Bold Gallery, Prague (2025); The Magic Donkey Inn, Longtermhandstand, Budapest (2025); Fading Moon, Rising Light at Steinhauser Gallery, Bratislava (2024); H: PRINCE OF DRAMA, Kasarne Kulturpark, Kosice (2023); A Mirror Within at Mortal Machine Gallery, New York (2022) and EXCHANGE, ENA Viewing Space, Budapest (2022), among others. He undertook an artist residency at Palazzo Monti, Brescia in 2023.
