BOTOND KERESZTESI
Botond Keresztesi (b. 1987, Targu Mures, Romania) is a Hungarian artist based in Budapest, working primarily in painting, drawing, and site-specific painting installations.
Trained at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (2007-2012) with additional study at the University of Leipzig, his practice often juxtapose historical references with pop iconography and rendered virtual surfaces, inviting a reflection on the interplay of memory, technology, and imagination. Keresztesi's work is marked by a distinctive post-digital aesthetic, where dreamlike landscapes and fragmented realities collide with industrial, mechanical, and digital imagery. Organic and inorganic forms entwine with echoes of surrealism, cubism, futurism, and post-internet visual culture, creating compositions that feel at once familiar and peculiarly alien.
Keresztesi has exhibited widely across Europe, North America, and Asia. Recent solo and group shows include Sleeping Muse After Several Snoozes at X Museum in Beijing (2025), a major survey of works spanning the past decade, Came from the East, Heading North at Future Gallery in Berlin (2025), and solo exhibitions in London, New York, Paris, Prague, and Budapest. His works appear in notable public and private collections, including The Hungarian National Gallery, WT Foundation, Kyiv and X Museum, Beijing.
In 2024, Keresztesi presented a solo presentation at the Liste Art Fair Basel, further establishing his international presence alongside exhibitions at Longtermhandstand in Budapest and elsewhere. Drawing viewers into unconventional microcosms that blur the boundaries of time, culture, and medium, Botond Keresztesi is widely regarded as one of the most compelling voices in contemporary Hungarian painting.
