GÁBOR PINTÉR
Gábor Pintér (b. 1983, Budapest) lives and works in Budapest, Hungary.
Pintér is a contemporary Hungarian painter recognized for his layered, collage-like compositions that combine realism, abstraction, and pop-cultural references.
He studied at the Hungarian University of Fine Arts, where he developed a distinctive visual approach that explores how meaning is constructed through fragmented imagery and painterly gesture. His paintings often juxtapose architectural forms, surreal figures, and bold color fields to reflect on perception, memory, and the complexities of visual culture. Rather than presenting linear narratives, his works encourage open interpretation, offering viewers a field of visual associations that shift between the familiar and the uncanny.
Pintér received the Ludwig Prize in 2007. He has held solo exhibitions at institutions including Mega Foundation in Stockholm and the Institute of Contemporary Art in Dunaújváros (ICA-D), and has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Hungary and internationally. Most recently, Pintér participated in this year’s Basel Social Club, where he showcased a solo presentation.
Through a practice that is both playful and precise, Pintér continues to explore the layered nature of seeing and understanding in a media-saturated world.
